The Excellence Gateway Treasury
The Treasury contains websites and resources that are still valuable, but no longer updated. Contact information may be out of date and links may not work. Recent content is available on the Excellence Gateway
While the Engage to Learn e-learning resource supports the development of generic skills associated with the role of skills advisor, its branding and much of the material within it is related to the Train to Gain offer. With the ending of Train to Gain as a policy area after August, the extensive references to Train to Gain in the material will therefore become out of date. Also, many of the web links in the resource to pages on the main Train to Gain website will become broken at the end of March.
Please note that The Engage to Learn e-learning resource will therefore no longer be available from the Excellence Gateway after 31 March 2011.
Engage to Learn can assist in the development of skills advisors and other employer engagement professionals. This online tool reflects real-life situations involving skills advisors visiting employers, carrying out a skills needs analysis and helping the employer to identify staff development needs. It is easy to use and flexible, and aims to help practitioners understand and measure their performance against elements of the relevant parts of the new national occupational standards (NOS) in Business Support, which are available on the website of the standards setting body, SFEDI. It also supports achievement of qualifications based on the new NOS such as the Level 4 Certificate in Providing Skills Advice, which SFEDI, is now offering. For more information, please read the Level 4 Certificate in Providing Skills Advice (QCF) guidance document, available from the SFEDI website. Some organisations and elements of skills policy reflected in the online tool have also changed. Because a generic approach was taken when developing Engage to Learn, these changes will not affect the quality and type of learning to be gained by using the software. In particular, the new NOS in Business Support includes all the elements of the previous Skills Broker Standard they replaced so practitioners can still use the software to develop their skills and knowledge and obtain feedback.
