Employability is about getting, staying and progressing in work. The challenge for training providers is to tailor training to both individual learners and employer needs.

With this focus, Learning, Employment and Training Services, the training delivery department of Shropshire Council is delighted to have been invited as one of the lead providers for the West Midlands programme.

"We are very proud to be the only work-based learning provider to have a lead role on the programme." Maggie Fobister, Training Delivery Manager

"The concept of inviting providers with the practical knowledge of implementing strategies to manage literacy, language and numeracy activities and share their experiences with colleagues from other providers within the region is very exciting to us.

The initial launch event gave us the chance to meet with the key people from the participating providers. We could see that there was clearly a lot that we could also gain from working together with them.

We are aware that the agenda is moving towards collaborative working at a local level and that providers of all sizes will need to develop their partnerships in order to maintain and improve their provision. We really look forward to offering our full support to the programme."

To join the programme in the West Midlands, email CfBT’s Regional Development Adviser, Stewart Smith.

Providers from the Yorkshire and Humber region worked together recently to discuss their priorities and plan their activities for the next six months.

Leeds City College and Hull College are FE colleges leading activity on the programme. They are joined by two providers of work-based and adult and community learning, Sector Solutions and the Career Exchange, a prison, HMP Lindholme, and a provider of teacher training, HudCETT.

Jan Tetley, from Leeds College of Building said:

"The launch event gave me the opportunity to discuss issues with other providers. It was reassuring to talk to fellow managers who have similar issues and concerns, and who understand where I am coming from."
